Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, CPI Average Price Data, U.S. city average, via FRED. Each year is the average of that year's monthly prices. 2026 covers January through August. BLS did not publish October 2025 prices because of the federal shutdown, and potato prices are also missing for March–April 2020 and November 2025; those years average the months available.
National averages are not store prices. Prices in high-cost areas, including much of California, typically run higher.
